![]() ![]() Along with playing Princess Jasmine in this year's Aladdin live-action film, she plays Elena, one of the Angels in the upcoming Charlie's Angels sequel. From there, her career launched into more and more high-profile projects, particularly two major remakes. It turned out to be a big year for Scott in 2015, as she was cast as Kimberley Hart, the Pink Power Ranger, in the 2017 Power Rangers adaptation. Scott did have a minor role in The Martian, but her scenes as Ryoko ended up being cut from the theatrical release and only appear on the extended cut. During this period, she focused on her personal life: she married soccer player Jordan Spence in 2014 the couple reportedly met at church. She also popped up for a couple of episodes of the British mystery series Inspector Lewis in 2015. Over the next few years, Scott spent most of her time doing short films and music videos, including her Lemonade Mouth costar Bridgit Mendler's "Hurricane" video. Unfortunately, the show faltered along the way, and ultimately, Fox chose not to renew after just one season attempts to shop the series elsewhere were unsuccessful, and Scott was out of a job. Scott then shifted from TV movies to straight-up TV shows, becoming a series regular on the Fox sci-fi drama Terra Nova in 2011 (pictured below, far left). From there, she moved over into mainstream Disney Channel with a role in the 2011 TV movie Lemonade Mouth and an accompanying short, Lemonade Mouth: Somebody. In 2009, she costarred as "Megan" in Life Bites, a British-produced sketch comedy show that lasted for two seasons. The actress got her first screen credits a decade ago with a couple of Disney-branded projects. In a sense, Aladdin is bringing Scott's career full circle. Naomi Scott, the British actress who plays the brave, strong-willed Princess Jasmine, is no stranger to the big screen, but this is definitely her biggest role to date. Aside from Will Smith as the Genie, most of the main cast is made up of relative newcomers for whom this is their first big blockbuster role. Now, Pasek and Paul are John Hancock-ing this thing, adding a flourish of their own to the original lyrics, which were penned by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. With the release of Disney's live-action remake of Aladdin just around the corner, we're excited to see every detail of the new Agrabah. Disney eventually acquiesced and changed the lyrics, altering the song so the new version would be on the home-video release and any subsequent theatrical release. That song was also the source of controversy upon the original film’s release, lambasted for lyrics that were considered culturally insensitive. ![]() They also wrote a new verse for “Arabian Nights,” the sweeping number that opens the original animated feature. ![]() The duo also shared a couple more tidbits, including that they got to write a “sweet” new duet for Aladdin and Jasmine-great news for future drunken groups at karaoke bars everywhere. “Alan wrote a beautiful piece of music and is incredible,” Paul told Variety. The music was written by legendary Disney composer Alan Menken. In case you forget, the tiger-toting royal doesn’t have a solo number in the original 1992 movie rather, she and the titular street rat duet on the classic “A Whole New World.” (She does, however, get a solo in the Broadway musical version-a rich-people-problems jam called “These Palace Walls.”) According to Variety, Pasek and Paul have since rectified this injustice, penning Jasmine a song of her own, which will be sung by actress Naomi Scott. Mena Massoud stars alongside her as Aladdin while Will Smith plays the iconic Genie. According to Variety, award-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul took a quick break from polishing their Oscars and Tonys to write a new original song for Princess Jasmine. Disneys Aladdin has finally come out, giving the world a glimpse at Naomi Scott as Jasmine. Disney is burnishing its live-action Aladdin remake with some novel musical twists.
